A couple of days ago, news broke that Bordeaux, looking to revamp their squad, had agreed a deal with Sunderland over the transfer of Josh Maja.
The young striker has played a huge part in the Black Cats’ promotion push back to the Championship this season, scoring 15 league goals so far, but with just six months left on his current deal and no desire to renew, something had to be sorted.
Not wanting to let him go for nothing in the summer, Sunderland agreed a €4m transfer for the 20-year-old, who is expected to sign a four and a half year deal with the French side.
Despite being touted as done by various members of the French press, the transfer has yet to be made official, and L’Equipe journalist Emery Taisne, who broke the initial news, has explained why on Friday.
As things stand, all that is required to complete the move is ‘one document’, and that is expected to arrive ‘today’.
Just some good old slow paperwork holding the deal up.
