Last week, we covered claims from France which stated Sunderland are in the running to sign Lyon’s Georges Mikautadze. It was also reported he’s a plan B as the English club’s main target is FC Nantes’ Matthis Abline.
Journalist Sacha Tavolieri took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to report Sunderland are ‘truly interested’ in Mikautadze, without any mention of Abline.
He claims the forward’s profile is appreciated by the Black Cats, likely by their manager, Régis Le Bris, and new sporting director, Florent Ghisolfi.
Lyon have been relegated to the second division due to their financial problems.
Tavolieri states this could help the Premier League newcomers to facilitate an agreement with the French club for the 24-year-old’s transfer. He further adds AS Roma are also in the picture to sign the Georgia international.
Last week, L’Equipe stated Lyon’s appeal to challenge DNCG’s decision to relegate them will be heard on July 10th.
Tavolieri hasn’t taken this into account and if the French club are to return to Ligue 1, it wouldn’t be as easy for Sunderland or another club to snatch Mikautadze from Lyon.
