When signed by Manchester City last summer, Brazilian right-back Danilo wasn’t exactly living the hype. Mostly left on Real Madrid’s bench, his move to the Premier League didn’t get much attention, even though Pep Guardiola’s side paid €30m for the transfer.
But it turned out the 26-year-old became an important piece in the Manchester City squad. With 34 appearances this season, Danilo was useful both on the right and left, and managed to prove himself at a top level.
The player has spoken to ESPN Brasil after winning the Premier League title, specifically about how special the Manchester City squad is.
The interview was made on Monday morning, and Danilo claims that even the weather in Manchester changed a bit after City’s title.
“The sun came out a little (laughs). Usually it doesn’t come out, today it came, we woke up today to come to work, I mainly, even happier,” Danilo told ESPN Brasil.
Regarding Manchester United’s loss against West Brom, he said: “I was at home, I watched from the sofa, it was an unexpected result, but that’s why football and the Premier League are exciting.
“As I’ve always been saying, this is something we stop to analyse every day, right. So I think that in a few years we’ll have the real notion of what this season was in terms of numbers, in terms of achievements.
“I think the most important thing that makes us feel more satisfied is that the season really was very good, it’s the way we feel in training, the way we feel in games. The day to day here in the club is very light, very nice, so I think this makes us feel that the season was really special.”
The Premier League trophy is just one more major title in Danilo’s career. He’s already won the Copa Libertadores with Santos, the Portuguese league twice with Porto, La Liga and the Champions League, also twice, with Real Madrid. Not short of medals at 26.
