Atalanta summer signing Robin Gosens could be a doubt for the Serie A side’s clash with Everton on Thursday night.

Yesterday Gosens was substituted in the second half during Atalanta’s 2-1 victory over Sassuolo, with reports in the Italian media the German midfielder has a muscle problem.

The 23 year old is expected to undergo tests today to see how serious the injury is, but with the Europa League game with Everton just days away the player could be struggling to be involved.

Gosens would have expected to start the game against Everton after playing the full ninety minutes in Atalanta’s first two league games. The midfielder also started yesterday’s game against Sassuolo, but had to be withdrawn after 69 minutes. This will come as blow to Atalanta, who are playing in a major European competition for the first time in decades.

The game is also important for Everton, as they look to bounce back from their disappointing performance against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday. The Toffees suffered a 3-0 loss at home to the North London side, and they now face a tricky trip to Italy this week.
