Earlier this month, Wout Weghorst’s agent Simon Cziommer said he would prefer a move to FC Twente, if he were to leave Burnley in the summer window.
The 31-year-old was on loan at TSG Hoffenheim this season and they have decided against buying him.
That’s according to De Telegraaf, who say this opens the door for Twente to sign the Burnley striker.
Weghorst has a year left on his contract at Burnley and the Eredivisie side are keeping a close eye on his situation there.
The Netherlands international has ‘repeatedly expressed’ his desire to join Twente and the report says the next window could be the ‘good time’ for him to fulfil his wish, considering they are in the market for a new striker.
It’s explained that ‘much will depend’ on Burnley, who are likely to see manager Vincent Kompany leave them for Bayern Munich, meaning they will have to make a decision on Weghorst in the next window.
Cziommer had earlier talked about the possibility of his client staying at Turf Moor, as long as the Clarets want him.
Burnley are currently sorting out their managerial situation and once there’s clarity on who will lead them next season, they can sort out Weghorst’s future.
