Trying to bolster his defence over the summer, Jürgen Klopp was rumoured to be interested in Hoffenheim’s Niklas Süle.
Back in September, an attempt from Liverpool to sign the 21-year-old defender was revealed, yet the player decided to turn it down in favour of continuing his development in Germany in an environment he knew well.
Bringing in Ragnar Klavan from Augsburg for just over £4m and Joel Matip from Schalke on a free instead, Klopp’s plans at Anfield have worked so far, even letting Martin Skrtel and Kolo Touré leave in the summer.
However, with Mamadou Sakho also on his way out due to a well publicised disagreement, Klopp is only really left with the aforementioned two signings and Dejan Lovren, meaning a fourth centre-back could be required.
Luckily for Liverpool, Nicklas Süle has made it clear that a move to England in the near future would be his preference, and surely a move to play under the charismatic German manager would be of interest to him when his development period comes to an end.
Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport about a potential move to either Milan or Inter, the player made it clear a move to Serie A wasn’t on his agenda.
He said: “In the past they’ve had great players, the names of the clubs have weight, the city is nice, the fans are warm, but they’re declining. For someone in the Bundesliga, it’s a step down because they haven’t qualified for Europe for some years. I prefer the Premier League.”
Our guess is that transfer he wants so badly will happen next summer. Where to? That’s still a mystery.
