West Ham United showed keen interest in signing Nikola Milenković in the last transfer window, but were unable to take him away from Fiorentina.

The defender signed a one-year extension in August and his current deal now runs down in 2023.

According to Calciomercato.it, the 24-year-old is one of the key figures under Vincenzo Italiano this season and his performances so far have shown ‘that he can aspire to higher levels’.

AC Milan are in the picture and have held talks with La Viola for the centre-back. His future is ‘destined to be far away’ from the Serie A side, but a transfer is unlikely to take place in January.

It’s claimed the Serbia international and Rocco Commisso have ‘some sort of a gentleman’s agreement’ for him to leave the club next summer. This was reached in the previous window, when he was ‘one step away from West Ham’ and then signed an extension.

Milan are in the market for a new centre-back following Simon Kjær’s serious injury setback. As per the report, Milenković is an ‘ideal replacement’ for the Dane, but the Rossoneri will have to ‘keep an eye’ on Juventus and David Moyes’ side.

With West Ham, Milan and Juve in the picture for the player, Calciomercato.it state a ‘real auction can be triggered’ next summer.
