Earlier today, we covered multiple claims from Spain that discussed Arsenal’s interest in Real Madrid’s Martin Ødegaard.
The Gunners have joined Real Sociedad in the race to sign the midfielder, who spent last season on loan at Anoeta.
AS have come up with an update and they state the option of the 22-year-old returning to La Real is ‘moving away’ and he’s now closer to travelling to London to join Mikel Arteta’s side.
It’s claimed the Norway international’s desire was to return to Real Sociedad. However, two factors are now favouring the Premier League side.
According to the report, the La Liga winners see Arsenal’s offer with ‘better eyes’ and they have ‘liked’ the proposal made by the Emirates side over that of the club from San Sebastian.
In addition to this, the attacking midfielder’s agents have also made an effort to take their client to Arsenal. This is what they suspect at Real Sociedad.
AS further explains Zinedine Zidane’s side have never accepted any proposal made by their Spanish counterpart for Ødegaard. Florentino Pérez decided to let the player to go out on loan with the idea of the Norwegian returning to the club in the summer.
Arsenal at all times have accepted the idea of having the player only for the next few months and without any inclusion of a purchase option. This has pleased Real Madrid.
The newspaper adds the negotiations between the two sides are progressing on the right track and hence, Ødegaard is now ‘closer to Arsenal’, despite his initial preference being Real Sociedad.
Those in charge at Real Sociedad are of the belief that agents and those close to Ødegaard have ‘forced him to agree’ to join Arsenal.
According to El Diario Vasco, relayed by Marca, Ødegaard is set to join the English club on loan for the remainder of the season.
Marca further add that it would not be strange for the deal to be officially announced in the ‘next few hours’.
