The Danish media have been keen for Kasper Schmeichel to leave Leicester City for some time. Transfer rumours are lapped up in Denmark, even if they’re clearly nonsensical.
Earlier this year the weakest of links between the goalkeeper and Real Madrid was treated with genuine excitement, even being discussed, seriously, on national TV. Kasper Schmeichel to Real Madrid became a thing.
Over the weekend Sky Sport claimed Manchester United and Manchester City could be set to battle for the Leicester City player, and whilst that was once again cloaked in speculation, it’s made big news in Denmark.
Much more interesting is Schmeichel changing his agent. Footballers don’t usually swap representatives if they don’t feel a change of direction is needed. Ekstra Bladet suggest the agent change could the first steps to a transfer, and it’s a decent bet that this time the Danish newspaper are correct.
Several clubs will be looking for goalkeepers during the summer, but Schmeichel may be left disappointed at the level of those who move in for him. Alternatively, a move to Old Trafford would round off a career spent trying to live up to his father’s status.
