Over the past few months, Manchester United have been linked with the possibility of bringing Alvaro Carreras back to the club.

That didn’t happen in January, as the Red Devils brought in Patrick Dorgu from Italian side Lecce.

Some background about what happened in the winter transfer window has been presented by O Jogo, who state that Real Madrid and Barcelona are interested in the left-back.

As for Manchester United, the outlet claims that Ruben Amorim’s side were leading the race at one point. It was the Portuguese manager who preferred to move for Dorgu, according to the report, thus abandoning the club’s chase of Carreras.

The feeling is that the Denmark international’s arrival has all but ruled out the 21-year-old’s potential return to Old Trafford in the near future. Real Madrid and Barcelona are now competing for his signature.

Having said that, Dorgu has already shown enough versatility to play at right wing-back. At Lecce, he also played in attacking midfield.

This can potentially accommodate Carreras into the side and Dorgu can also feature in the same eleven. So it could be wise for Manchester United to still pursue a move for their academy graduate.
