It’s been clear for a while that Juventus wouldn’t make the same money from Douglas Costa this year as they could’ve done last year.
Although English sides like Manchester City and Manchester United continue to be linked to the Brazilian winger, it doesn’t feel very strong.
Outlet Il Bianconero puts the issue forward, saying clubs are now suggesting they’ll offer half of what Juventus planned to make with him.
They say Juventus rejected offers of over €80m for Douglas Costa last summer, with the clear suggestion such an offer came from Manchester City. And now that the Serie A side are convinced to sell, they can’t get anything close to that.
This time, City could be back for the player, along with Manchester United and Paris Saint Germain. However, the first approaches show these clubs are only willing to pay €40m or €50m for him, and no more than that.
There’s no claim Pep Guardiola’s side have made contact again, but it is stated there’s been some sort of contact from ‘interested clubs’ Manchester United and PSG.
Claims around the Brazilian have often felt very much like old claims around his competriot and teammate Alex Sandro, like it’s Juventus fishing for interest rather than these clubs going for him strong.
Despite what Il Bianconero say, it feels unlikely City would have gone to such figures.
