On Tuesday, journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reported Florent Ghisolfi’s first move as new AS Roma sporting director would be to try and sign Leeds United’s Diego Llorente.
Leeds allowed the centre-back to spend the last 18 months on loan at the Serie A side, and earlier today, Il Tempo reported that he’s eager to return to Roma.
Corriere dello Sport state Ghisolfi had a meeting with Daniele De Rossi and Roma CEO Lina Souloukou on Tuesday, a day after arriving in Italy, to discuss the club’s strategy for the summer window.
Roma signed Angeliño on loan from RB Leipzig and the report says they could exercise the €5m purchase option to retain him. The Giallorossi would then focus on the Leeds player.
The Whites’ failure to secure promotion to the Premier League could see Roma sign 30-year-old Llorente via a new loan deal or buy him for €3.5m with a deferred payment.
The English media have reported that Leeds have to raise funds to balance their books, and their failure to return to the top flight has made their task even more difficult.
With Corriere suggesting that Roma can buy Llorente for €3.5m, it clearly won’t improve Leeds’ finances much.
