When it comes to rumours involving Leeds United and Fiorentina, the name which springs to mind is Erick Pulgar. The midfielder has been linked with Marcelo Bielsa’s side since the last summer transfer window, and there’s been claims of approaches and even offers.
Those claims reach all the way to the weekend, yet on Monday La Nazione present a different Fiorentina player for Leeds United. That man is Christian Kouame, with the striker thought to be the subject of wide interest for a January move.
He was all set up to move to Crystal Palace during the last winter market, but after a rough deal had been agreed he injured his knee and had to go under the knife. Then playing for Genoa, it looked like any hope of a transfer was over, until Fiorentina took a gamble and signed him despite the injury.
Kouame didn’t return until July, then scored one goal and added two assists in seven Serie A matches for Fiorentina.
This season he’s featured in 16 Serie A matches, with the striker finding the back of the net just once. Now used mainly as a late substitute, there have been claims about an exit in the winter market.
Palace have been linked again, but La Nazione now link Leeds. Torino and Verona are keen, yet it’s stated ‘attention must be paid’ to ‘proposals coming from England’… and Leeds United are the only club named.
It looks a long shot, Kouame is clearly a highly rated talent, however, given his recent struggle for goals and the relatively recent knee injury, it’s a case of buyer beware.
