Brighton and Hove Albion must have ‘significantly’ improved their offer for St Pauli manager Fabian Hürzeler as that is the only way there could be progress in talks.
That’s according to MOPO, who say Brighton would have to have put in a much-improved offer on Wednesday if talks are advancing as is being claimed.
Several reports on Wednesday hinted that Brighton were finally getting close to an agreement with the German side for Hürzeler, who has been identified as the ideal replacement for Roberto de Zerbi.
This came after MOPO had previously insisted there was no progress being made in talks over the manager as Brighton’s initial offer for him was far below what St Pauli were looking for.
They had suggested that reports elsewhere of an agreement being close were actually being fed to the media by certain sources, either Brighton or Hürzeler, as it was in their interest for the narrative to be pushed in that direction.
They now cover the reports on Wednesday that negotiations had begun moving once again and state that they are unaware of any such development.
They’re sticking to their line that there has been no progress but say if there has been some that they are unaware of, it can only have happened because Brighton have ‘significantly increased their offer‘ for Hürzeler.
They suggest that can’t be the case though because if they had done so and gotten close to what St Pauli are looking for, an agreement might have actually been struck already.
In other words, St Pauli aren’t making matters that difficult and there is a deal there to be done so the fact that it hasn’t would suggest Brighton still aren’t paying up. If negotiations are moving again, it is only because they’ve put considerably more money on the table.
