After shining at the European Championships with the Netherlands, Denzel Dumfries is hot property, and Everton are keen to get him.
Before the summer tournament even began, Everton were being named as the prime candidates for Dumfries signature, with Marcel Brands reportedly a big fan of the full-back.
Since then, there have been numerous reports about a potential move, with a €15m price tag mooted.
Everton are not the only candidates, with Inter Milan also thought to be keen as they look for a replacement for Achraf Hakimi.
Neither they nor the Toffees have made a move as yet, but that price has steadily increased courtesy of Dumfries’ impressive displays this summer.
It’s now believed the asking price is €25m, which has made things a little bit difficult for Inter, who are short on money, and Everton, who apparently need to sell players first.
Whether either club gets the full-back remains to be seen, but according to journalist Ralf Seuntjens, Mino Raiola will be taking his cut.
“I heard that Dumfries has to cost €15m, and everything that is more is split by two,” Ralf Seuntjens told FC Afkicken.
“So suppose the transfer fee is €25m, then €15m plus €5m will go to PSV and €5m to Mino Raiola and Denzel.”
That then could explain why the price has been steadily rising. Coupled with his performances, PSV have seemingly realised they can get more for their man.
Rather than taking a cut of €15m, perhaps they now want to ensure they get that figure at the minimum, and thus his price has increased to €25m.
That €10m increase could have caused Everton and Inter to pull back, with a potential €15m bargain suddenly becoming €25m and far more costly to the budget.
Indeed perhaps that is also why there has been something of a slowing down, with Raiola now forced to deal at the new increased price, having already arranged deals at the lower one.
That’s all speculation on our part, but it fits perfectly and suggests that we may be waiting a while before Dumfries is rocking up at Everton or Inter as expected.
