Following up swiftly on linking Tottenham Hotspur with a January move for Nico Gaitan, a link which looked like an ‘alternative fact’, The Daily Mirror’s transfer blog has now linked Mauricio Pochettino with Malaga’s Sandro Ramirez.
Tottenham fans will feel like Ramirez is one of the family, giving how many times the striker was linked whilst with Barcelona. The latest link has made its way to AS in Spain, who cover the claims saying Ramirez has emerged as one of the ‘serious options’ should Tottenham lose Dele Alli.
That should be enough to kill the story, Sandro is is nothing like Alli. They both have skin, they both have hair (although a diminishing amount in Sandro’s case), and they can both find the back of the net, but buying Sandro to replace Alli would make little sense.
It’s conceivable Tottenham would want Sandro as a back-up forward, especially if Pochettino is starting to have doubts about Vincent Janssen, and the player’s sub-€10m buyout clause would be attractive, but there seems nothing much in this other than trying to push out a Tottenham transfer rumour.
The link was always there, it’s just come around again. A summer move would be likelier, with Sandro no doubt keen to keep playing and to add to the 7 La Liga goals he’s got so far this season.
