It seems only a very good late offer could save William Carvalho’s transfer to West Ham United. As already covered by us this morning, the Portuguese press doesn’t believe Sporting will bend, so a good bid which has been expected the entire summer would have to be made today.
And there are actually some outlets who are quite pessimistic about all this. Carvalho’s ‘risk to stay’ is the headline of a story from Correio da Manhã today, who are not very confident that West Ham will meet Sporting’s demands.
They claim Sporting are asking for €40m plus €5m in bonuses, which is probably the highest total figure we’ve seen in all these weeks covering the saga.
It’s claimed that Sporting president Bruno de Carvalho’s ‘stubbornness’ has been ‘more than a lot, especially with West Ham’. The London side’s last bid would’ve been only €2.5m short, and Sporting still didn’t accept it.
Correio da Manhã also claims that in case Carvaho really stays, he will get a €5m bonus. That was a clause included in his contract in the case Sporting rejected an offer of over €35m.
If this is all true, West Ham don’t look so bad, and Bruno de Carvalho is cutting his nose off to spite his face.
