A day after Manchester United fell to a 4-1 defeat to Newcastle United, Scott McTominay guided Napoli to a 3-0 win over Empoli in Serie A.

The Scotland midfielder has clearly won over many in Italy and this was mirrored by Corriere dello Sport yesterday, as the outlet described him as the signing of the season in Serie A.

Now, Tuttomercatoweb have gone a step further and have taken a shot at Manchester United for selling McTominay last summer.

They believe that the decision to sell the 28-year-old and sign Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain was a ‘senseless’ one which defines the club’s struggles in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.

The report states that the Uruguayan midfielder is ‘struggling in that chaos’ at Manchester United and compare it to how McTominay is enjoying his life in Naples – away from Old Trafford.

They believe that the decision to sell the midfielder was a ‘costly’ one and it is a key reason why they are struggling and their last hope of silverware is the Europa League and that hope can also be exhausted against Lyon on Thursday.

Further, TMW criticise Manchester United’s policy, stating that they sign and sell players as if they are ‘stickers’ and fail to think about the collective.
