Searching for a new striker before the end of the transfer window, Philippe Clement and Rangers appeared to have set their sights on KAA Gent’s Hugo Cuypers.

The 26-year-old has been impressive in his second season with the Belgian club, scoring 17 goals in 34 appearances for them to date, as well as picking up six assists, which is why the Ibrox side were interested.

However, according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, who took to X, formerly Twitter, to bring the latest news, Rangers will have to look elsewhere.

That’s because Cuypers won’t be joining the Scottish Premiership side, despite them ‘very much appreciating’ what the forward had to offer.

Despite this, Rangers ‘won’t be’ his next destination, at least not in the January transfer window, meaning that Clement and those in charge of transfers at Ibrox will have to look elsewhere for a late goalscoring arrival before the end of business on Thursday.

Rangers currently sit second in the table, five points behind leaders and arch rivals Celtic, but have a game in hand on Brendan Rodgers’ men, having scored 45 goals and conceded just 11, and perhaps the hope was that the arrival of Cuypers could help fire them a bit further up the table.
