On Tuesday, reports from the Argentine media claimed Brighton & Hove Albion made an ‘important offer’ for River Plate striker Rafael Borré.
TNT Sports said the Seagulls emerged as a potential contender to sign the 25-year-old, whose contract with the Buenos Aires side expires in the summer.
Since Borré’s departure from River Plate is big news in Argentina, there are several stories on his future. One of them comes from newspaper Olé.
As they report that Brazilian side Grêmio gave up on the signing, the outlet also comments on the other options the player has. When speaking of Brighton, it’s claimed ‘there’s been no formal offer’ from the Premier League side so far.
“Here, the map of Borré’s future is totally clear, the only thing missing is the player’s decision: or he stays in a giant club in South America like River, earning less money but knowing that he’s going to give up, that Marcelo Gallardo is there to help him to explore his football, at Gremio he’s going to win money, in a lower league than Argentine, or there’s a chance he goes to a third-line team in Europe. Borré in Europe will surely end up playing for Brighton, Osasuna or Alavés, teams that I don’t know if they will be able to answer due to their football characteristics.”
River Plate manager Marcelo Gallardo was also asked about the striker’s future today, and talked a little about the situation.
“The subject of Borré seems to me to be very personal,” he said (via TNT Sports).
“He has to take the time to make a decision, I talk to him a lot. Not that I gave him advice, but I did give him an opinion of what I’d do if I were in his place. I believe that he’s going to have possibilities to choose.”
