We’ve all got regrets in life, and for footballers, the biggest ones will always be about the move they never made.
Transfers are fleeting things, and sometimes, if things don’t line up as they should, you end up missing out on your dream move.
More often than not, though, there’s someone to blame. And for Salvatore Caturano, there’s two people to blame for not getting him his move to Chelsea; his father and his agent.
Caturano has had a winding career, turning out for no fewer than 16 clubs since breaking onto the scene as a youngster with Empoli in 2007.
He made his Serie A debut for the Italian club aged just 16 years, ten months and ten days old, a tally that, surprisingly, only ranks him in 48th place on the youngest debutants in the history of the league.
Nonetheless, it was a significant achievement for the youngster and, according to him, something that nearly earned him a move to Chelsea.
Speaking to Pianeta Bianconero, relayed by Tuttomercatoweb, he revealed the Blues were once keen, and not joining them is a major regret.
“Shortly after (his debut) Chelsea looked for me, but I was too young to decide,” he told them.
“In my place, my father and my former agent did, and nothing was done: after many years, it remains the biggest regret of my career.”
