Unable to bring in some of their top targets this summer, West Brom left themselves in a bit of a pickle on transfer deadline day.

Needing a striker, a late scramble for former Wigan striker Franco Di Santo didn’t really work out, and Wales hero/Cruyff turn aficionado Hal Robson-Kanu joined on a free late in the evening.

Despite being offered a return to the Premier League following spells at Chelsea, Wigan and Blackburn, the Argentina striker has since admitted he never really thought of leaving Germany, or Schalke, for that matter.

Speaking to Kicker, he said: “The interest from West Brom was made public, but I got loads of other offers – from England and other leagues, all teams similar to Schalke.

“Financially, some of them were quite lucrative, but I never for a minute thought of a premature exit from Schalke”.

The player has made two appearances since starting the new season with Schalke, but is yet to score a goal in 134 minutes of football.

With a contract keeping him at the club until 2019, Schalke fans can at least count on him staying until next summer.
