Basel’s Michael Lang has a souvenir to take away from his big Champions League night against Manchester United.
The 26 year old scored the only goal of the game for FC Basel as the Swiss side beat Jose Mourinho’s men on Wednesday evening. Mourinho was left disappointed after the match, but refused to criticise his team, saying they should have been out of sight after a much better first half.
Like on many occasions last season, Mourinho seemed to suggest Manchester United did everything they could in front of goal, but things simply weren’t going to go for them in that first half.
A poorer second half allowed Basel to come into it more, and subsequently get the winner via Lang.
The match-winner spoke to the Swiss media after the Champions League match and explained he’s picked up a strange injury. With a big scratch mark down his neck, Lang told Blick a Manchester United player did it.
Blick say it ‘looks like he met a lion’ which is obviously over the top, and they also wonder what the player is going to tell his girlfriend.
Lang himself was thrilled that, during the mini interview, Paul Pogba came through the mixed zone and congratulated him on the victory.
