With Aleix Vidal not fitting in Luis Enrique’s plans, Barcelona are looking for a right-back.

If you’ve been following us for a while now, you’ll know that, much like the Italian media when Juventus are on the hunt for a new midfielder, the Catalan press start linking every player under the sun to their beloved club when a transfer is needed.

Wednesday is no different, and among some of the ‘low cost’ options for the position around Europe is Glen Johnson.

Yes, the same Glen Johnson who currently plays for Stoke under Mark Hughes, put next to Dario Srna and Stephen Lichsteiner by Mundo Deportivo as a right-back who could fit the profile required by the La Liga champions this January.

The Catalan newspaper focus on the player’s Liverpool history to make the possible signing more exciting for their Barcelona supporting readers, when the man they really want is 22-year-old Joao Cancelo, currently contracted to Valencia.

The problem there is the relationship between the two clubs, with Barcelona already plucking two of Valencia’s best players in the summer in André Gomes and Paco Alcacer.

As is the case every time the Catalan press do this, the likelihood of this happening is minimal, if non-existent, but it fills column inches and makes it sound like Barcelona are considering multiple options.

Including Stoke’s Glen Johnson, apparently…
