Stoke City defender Bruno Martins Indi has been recalled to the Netherlands national team after a long absence.

The 24-year-old has settled in quickly at Stoke this season after his arrival from Porto on loan, and has managed to start to rebuild his status. Martins Indi has been speaking to the Dutch press association (via Soccernews), and was asked about his return to the national team.

The Stoke defender spoke about manager Danny Blind not selecting for the past 14 months, following a red card against Iceland: “A negative moment that has had much influence, but that is a thing of a past.”

The Stoke City star added he is hoping to help his team qualify for the World Cup in 2018, after they missed out on the Euros in France.

He added: “We must go, I look forward. I want to do my part to help ensure that we go to the 2018 World Cup.”

Martins Indi insisted he is happy at the moment, and would certainly be hoping to keep performing for the national team and Stoke City.

Stoke City reportedly have a buying option on the Dutchman, who would want to impress Mark Hughes to earn a permanent move.
