Stoke City midfielder Giannelli Imbula has spoken to the French media about his current struggles with the Premier League side. Imbula has found himself out of the Stoke City team in recent months despite a promising start in England.

Speaking to L’Equipe about his two years away from Marseille, Imbula has admitted his time with Stoke City isn’t going to plan. The central midfielder has featured in just 12 Premier League games this campaign and is struggling to hold down a regular place in the stating eleven.

“Things now are not going as planned,” said the Stoke City player on his time in England.

Imbula also told L’Equipe his move from Marseille to Porto gave him a jolt, and justified him leaving the French side.

“I was given a nice kick up the backside” said Imbula.

Imbula signed for Stoke City for a club record fee of £18.3m just over a year ago, and did relatively well in his first season.

However, Imbula didn’t make the best of starts to this campaign, and was subsequently dropped by manager Mark Hughes.
