A few years ago, Giannelli Imbula became one of the hottest names in the transfer market. It started with Porto signing him in a €20m deal from Marseille in 2016, and six months later, it was Stoke City who bought him for €24.5m.
But the midfielder failed to show why he was worth all that money, since his time with the Potters wasn’t convincing.
That’s why he’s been having several loan spells. He first went to Toulouse, then Rayo Vallecano, and more recently Lecce, who he joined on a one-year spell last summer.
However, according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato Web, his time at the Italian side may be over before the end of his contract there.
It’s claimed that Imbula is out of Lecce’s project, and since they’ve been getting many offers for him, he could soon rescind his contract with the club.
He has only four appearances for them so far.
The offers they mention would obviously have to be considered by Stoke City, since it’s they who loaned him out and have him under contract until 2021. Lecce would only have to agree with it.
But since the transfer window in Europe’s top leagues is now closed, Imbula would have to find a place where he can still be registered to play this season.
