Getafe’s Markel Bergara has struggled with injuries since the start of last season and he last featured for the Spanish side in their 1-1 draw against Alaves on August 31st.
Another injury setback has kept him on the sidelines and Friday’s edition of AS explains the 33-year-old is expected to announce his retirement from football. The situation will force the La Liga club to bring in a replacement in the ongoing transfer window.
It’s claimed Stoke City’s Oghenekaro Peter Etebo has emerged as a target for Getafe.
According to the newspaper, the Potters midfielder is the ‘player chosen by Getafe’ to fill in the vacant position in their squad, which will be created by Bergara’s impending exit.
Mundo Deportivo also has a report on Etebo and they claim Getafe will make his transfer official in the ‘next few hours’.
Getafe’s idea is to take the Nigeria international on a short-term loan deal until the end of the season.
Having not featured for Stoke since October, a loan move to Getafe may provide Etebo an opportunity to feature regularly in the second half of the season.
