According to claims in the Belgian media, Stoke City are showing an interest in Club Brugge defenders Bjorn Engels and Dion Cools.

Stoke City boss Mark Hughes could be looking to strengthen his defence before the window closes, and the two Brugge players are an option.

HLN report, via Voetbal Nieuws, that Stoke City have started initial talks with Engels’ agent, to discuss a move to the Premier League side in this window.

Stoke City have already brought in Bruno Martins Indi this summer, but perhaps Mark Hughes still wants to bring in one more defender before the window closes.

Engels only extended his contract last season, which ties him to Brugge until June 2020, but he could be tempted with a move to a major European League.

It’s also been reported Stoke City are interested in Engels’ club teammate Dion Cools, but it’s understood no approach has been made for the right back.

With Phil Bardsley joining Burnley this summer Hughes may be looking for cover at right back. Antwerp are also reported to be interested in Cools.

The 21 year old is contracted to the Belgian side until June 2019.
