Leeds United forward Jay Roy Grot has told the Dutch media it’s a step up being called up the Netherlands’ U21 squad.
The youngster is currently on loan with VVV-Venlo for the season.
Voetbal Primeur have reported on comments the Leeds United loanee made to Fox Sports when asked about his call up: “It is still a step up. I was hoping that I would be selected, but I never assume, then you’re more than happy when you are. I’m getting jitters because I’m going to play with new guys and I get another trainer. But I like it a lot.”
Grot joined Leeds United from NEC last year, but he failed to make an impact in his debut season in England, scoring just one league goal in 20 appearances.
The 21 year old has impressed for VVV since arriving at the Dutch club in the last transfer window and in recent weeks the player has been bringing goals to the team.
VVV have been one of the surprise packages in the Dutch top flight in this campaign and they currently lie 5th in the table.
This has led to Grot being called up to the U21s and he could be set to make his debut against Germany on Friday.
