Allan Saint-Maximin has been a player repeatedly linked to several clubs, only to see interest back away before it gets to anything especially serious.
Premier League clubs have been among the interested parties, and Newcastle United have been linked for months, going back to the last summer transfer window.
Towards the end of June we covered claims from France that the Magpies weren’t far away from agreeing personal terms with the 22 year old, on a deal which would cost around €25m.
Then on July 17th it was reported in France that whilst Newcastle and Crystal Palace are interested, it’s Watford leading the way for the signing.
Nice manager Patrick Vieira isn’t too keen to keep Saint-Maximin at the club. The former Arsenal player is aware the attacker is talented, but wasn’t impressed by some of his behaviour last summer.
Strangely, L’Equipe state Lee Charnley would be ready to negotiate around the €25m figure, but Newcastle prefer the idea of €15m plus bonuses.
New manager Steve Bruce isn’t convinced, he’s conducted his own ‘investigations’ and hasn’t had ‘good feedback’ on the player generally. Bruce is said to have other options in Ligue 1, so this could be leading to early transfer disagreement.
