The ongoing delay in Leo Ostigard’s move from Brighton to Napoli has been explained, with the Seagulls to blame for the issue.
That’s according to Corriere Dello Sport, who cover the situation in detail today as talks over the defender continue.
They report that the ‘cards were already in order’ for Ostigard to swap Brighton for Napoli this summer, but Graham Potter’s side then received a ‘more advantageous offer’ from Torino.
That led Brighton to shuffle those cards and seek a deal with Torino, but this saw them ‘collide’ with a refusal from the defender.
He ‘only wants Napoli’, and his agent, Jim Solbakken, has already met with the Italian side several times to discuss the move.
The agreement between him, his client and Napoli is finalised, and Ostigard is ‘waiting to join’ them this summer. However, the Italians are yet to finalise things with Brighton.
Recent reports have indicated that there is only a small difference between the two clubs, and Corriere back that up, stating it is only ‘really details’ that separate them from an agreement.
According to them, though, only a ‘few steps’ are needed, and then it ‘will be champagne’.
In other words, the two clubs are close to working out a deal that suits them both.
That is presumably down to Ostigard, who is in ‘total harmony’ with Napoli and has ‘refused any alternative’ despite Brighton trying to put them on the table.
