West Ham United director of football Tim Steidten has once again turned his attention to Vfb Stuttgart, with an enquiry made for Jamie Leweling.
That’s according to SportBILD, who cover the player today and how West Ham are showing interest ahead of the summer.
The newspaper reports that West Ham and AS Roma have enquired about the Stuttgart star, who has four goals and seven assists to his name this season.
His performances are ‘causing a furore’ and that’s piled the pressure on Stuttgart, who have to make a decision on the player.
He’s currently on loan from Union Berlin and while Stuttgart have a purchase option worth €6m, they’re yet to take it up or decide on whether to do so. That clause expires at the end of May, so time is running out.
The player has continually stated he wants to remain where he is, but the German club’s finances are limited, even if they qualify for the Champions League.
That’s seemingly led other suitors to express their interest and West Ham are one of them, alongside Roma.
They’ve been watching him because they like his ‘extremely dangerous speed’ and his ‘direct runs deep’ and seem to think he could be a valuable addition, particularly as his asking price may be low given that €6m clause.
Of course, West Ham and Steidten are not strangers to shopping at Stuttgart, with Konstantinos Mavropanos bought from the Germans last summer and Leweling potentially joining him this year.
