No matter what happens at Tottenham these days, the idea that Harry Kane could leave the club and head to Bayern Munich refuses to go away.

The German side have somewhat struggled, at least by their standards, since Robert Lewandowski went to Barcelona, and there has been a lot of talk of the England international eventually coming in to replace him.

The two share similar characteristics, but his love for Tottenham stands in the way, especially with Spurs currently doing well under Antonio Conte.

The Italian manager has turned things around nicely at the London side since taking over from Nuno Espírito Santo, and there is renewed confidence the club can start competing for titles in the near future.

A lot could rest on whether both Antonio Conte and Kane remain at the club going forward, and Gianluca Di Marzio believes the two men’s destinies could be intertwined, as he explained to Wettfreunde in Germany.

Asked if Bayern could be the Englishman’s next big step, he said: “I think that depends on Conte’s future. Whether Conte will extend his contract with Tottenham. If he stays, it’s because Tottenham really want to improve and win the Premier League and Champions League.

“If he stays, it’s because he has the guarantee that Kane, Son, Richarlison – all the great Tottenham players – will stay. I don’t think Conte will stay if Tottenham sell Harry Kane.

“I don’t think it would be the right move for Kane to go to Bayern Munich now. It depends on what Tottenham want to do in the future. How they perform in tournaments. It’s still too early to know what will happen next. It’s difficult to predict what will happen.”

Di Marzio then goes onto explain that if Bayern believe they need a player like Lewandowski to be successful going forward, since Sadio Mané is a very different type of footballer, then trying to buy Kane would make sense.

He added: “I know Bayern Munich want Harry Kane. I don’t know if this is the right move for Harry Kane. He should stay if Antonio Conte stays.”

Since making his first appearance for Tottenham, the 29-year-old has become almost iconic at the club, making 400 appearances, scoring 258 goals and assisting another 61.

He has 10 goals in 14 games in all competitions this season, with two assists.
