When nothing is going your way, even the smallest success must be treated grandly. That’s at least the case for Brighton and Hove Albion’s Valentin Barco.
He’s scored a goal in training with Sevilla which, at least according to Estadio Deportivo, has created a ‘state of madness’ at the Spanish club.
They explain that while the Brighton loanee hasn’t made a mark on the first team, at least in a positive way, he starred in a moment in Friday’s training session that has gotten everyone talking.
It’s been a rollercoaster ride for the Brighton youngster in Spain so far as he’s gone from doubted, to starter, to secondary option over a couple of months.
There’s even been rumours he could go back to Brighton in January, something which would make him the latest victim of the Sevilla transfer curse that seems to hang over any youngster moving there from the Premier League.
In the meantime, he continues to fight for a place and is now the star of Sevilla’s social media for the week.
They’ve just released a video of a goal he scored in training, a ‘cross volley’ according to the newspaper, that the Argentine celebrates ‘with euphoria’. His teammates join in too, creating a ‘state of madness’ as they all got involved either swinging shirts, celebrating with Barco or going a bit mad.
The whole reaction is a little over the top, perhaps as a result of the rough time Barco has had of things in Seville so far.
The same can be said of Estadio, who seem to be going out of their way to make something out of very little, perhaps giddy at the prospect of writing something positive about the Brighton man for a change.
