Barcelona’s stars are ‘rubbing their hands’ in excitement at the thought of playing with Manchester City’s Joao Cancelo after he arrived at the club on loan.
That’s according to Sport, who say players such as Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres are looking forward to working with the Portuguese defender.
The newspaper explains that Cancelo could make his debut for Barcelona in the clash with Betis this weekend and there is growing excitement about getting him established in the side.
The club consider him a ‘real luxury’ given their financial troubles of late, even if he has only arrived from Manchester City on loan without a purchase option.
They’re looking forward to him being the assist machine that he has been in the last few years, with last season seeing him manage ten, more than any Barcelona midfielder. In fact, only Raphinha, a winger, managed more in the entire Barcelona squad.
Cancelo has managed 21 assists in the last two season a figure that speaks for itself and shows the ‘spectacular offensive contribution’ he can provide.
The belief is that the Manchester City loanee can provide ‘pure oxygen’ to a team that lacked the ability to open up defences at times last season.
That’s a particular plus point for the likes of Lewandowski and Torres, who have been working off scraps but now may have the creator they’ve long needed.
