One of the big stories in Italy right now surround the future of Lorenzo Insigne, whose contract at Napoli expires next summer.
The Euro 2020 is practically a club legend, having spent the vast majority of his time there, and yet the efforts to keep him around haven’t been the strongest, with claims Aurelio de Laurentiis has only offered him half his current wages in the renewal.
That’s led to multiple rumours about a move abroad, with Newcastle United among those now being mentioned, thanks to Tuttosport.
The Italian newspaper look at the winger’s situation, and explain that his agent ‘continues to have contacts with other clubs’, especially abroad.
That’s where Newcastle come in, as they are one of the sides he is talking to, as the Magpies ‘need to renew their attack and have the resources to satisfy Insigne’s requests’, which are a €7m signing on fee, €6m/year wages post-tax and all of his image rights landing in his pocket.
Quite the demands, which is perhaps why the Napoli owner is so reluctant to agree, and it’ll be interesting to see if Eddie Howe’s side come forward with an adequate offer or if all this is just paper talk to put pressure on the Serie A side to up their demands.
