There’s been yet another update on the Henrikh Mkhitaryan story on Tuesday, and this time it comes from Kicker.
Earlier today, Der Westen had contacted Dortmund’s CEO, Hans-Joachim Watzke about what was going on, and the board member confirmed Manchester United had made a renewed offer for the winger, and Dortmund were going to think long and hard about it.
With training for the new season starting Monday, a decision is going to be made by the end of the weekend, with the likeliest outcome being the Armenian international will be on his way to England.
Amid all this, we never actually found out how much the ‘renewed’ offer was, but Kicker have apparently unearthed information that Ed Woodward and co. have made a €42.5m bid for Mkhitaryan.
Given that the asking price was repeatedly reported as €40m, Manchester United may have shown surprising generosity.
Kicker say all that needs to happen now is board approval, finer details being ironed out and, of course, a medical, and it’s done.
With this money, Dortmund are apparently planning on making more than one signing to bolster their squad, which, with established players like Gündogan, Hummels and now probably Mkhitaryan leaving, needs some strengthening.
Yes, they’ve signed youngsters, but who really believes you can actually win anything with kids?
For a player about to enter the last year of his contract, that is a lot of money, but if that’s what it takes to convince Dortmund to let him go, United won’t care one bit.
It’s not like they’ve held back with transfers in the past, is it?
