Napoli are going from one midfielder to another and having problems finding one which doesn’t look to be a too complicated transfer. Axel Witsel had been a long term aim and Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport explain Napoli had even gone as far as agreeing a fee with Zenit, but it’s the player’s wages causing an issue.

Witsel is looking for €4m a year on a four year deal, which Napoli’s president thinks is excessive, say Gazzetta dello Sport. The same newspaper link Liverpool and Everton once again, but it’s the latter club who seem to have the strongest rumours at the moment.

The money Witsel is looking for equates to around £65k per week, and if Everton really want the player then surely that’s within their grasp. In addition, if other clubs are walking away at such demands, then it means Witsel may have to set his salary sights a little lower.

Witsel has been linked repeatedly with an exit from Zenit, but this could be the window it actually happens. The Belgian’s contract is running down and a move for the 27 year old wouldn’t be a surprise.
