With Leandro Trossard enjoying himself greatly at Brighton & Hove Albion this season, there has been a little bit of a campaign for him to start ahead of Eden Hazard for Belgium at the World Cup.
The former Chelsea star hasn’t exactly been in great form for Real Madrid as he struggles to make appearances under Carlo Ancelotti, although that didn’t stop him from being picked by Roberto Martínez.
Whether Hazard starts remains to be seen, but even he feels that putting him in the starting XI might be a bit much considering his lack of game time this season, opening the door for the Brighton star.
Trossard has scored seven goals and assisted another three in 14 appearances for the Seagulls so far under both Graham Potter and Roberto De Zerbi, and that hasn’t gone unnoticed in his home country, or in Spain for that matter.
Hazard, speaking to the media ahead of the World Cup, was asked if he and Trossard can play together.
He replied, relayed by Walfoot: “We can. The manager will make his choices. If I’m the manager, I put myself on the pitch. It wouldn’t be based on what I’ve done in the past two years, but on the past 15. I understand the doubt from people. Over the past few months, it’s certain that (Trossard) deserves it more than me.”
In comparison to the Brighton star, the Real Madrid forward has made a measly six appearances for the La Liga side this season, totalling 229 minutes, during which he has scored one goal and picked up one assist.
