Normally one of the quietest positions when it came to Tottenham’s transfer market, the goalkeeper position is starting to attract a bit of attention these days.
That’s because Hugo Lloris isn’t getting any younger, and names like Thomas Strakosha have been mentioned in the past as players who could replace him.
However, one has been gaining a lot of traction lately, and that’s Mike Maignan, currently at Lille.
The 24 year old goalkeeper attracted some attention last year during the Ligue 1 side’s great season, and while he stayed for the current campaign, it seems unlikely he’ll stick around much longer.
Chelsea have also been reportedly snooping, but La Voix du Nord seem pretty certain Tottenham could end up being the winners here, as they believe Maignan could arrive in north London to ‘prepare the succession of Lloris and team up again with his old goalkeeping coach, Nuno Santos’.
Santos was quickly poached by José Mourinho when the Portuguese took over from Mauricio Pochettino at the Premier League club, and this interest will have no doubt stemmed from that exact source, as hinted by Manuel Lonjon a short while ago.
La Voix du Nord explain Lille have also prepared themselves for Maignan’s eventual departure by signing Brazilian goalkeeper Léo Jardim last year.
All signs point to a departure, and we’ll have to see who comes forward with the best offer.
