Borussia Dortmund sports director Sebastien Kehl has confirmed there is interest in Donyell Malen, with Aston Villa making a bid for him this week.

Ruhr Nachrichten cover comments from Kehl today, who insists that the Dutchman is still highly valued by the Bundesliga club.

Malen has been linked with a move to Aston Villa throughout this week, with them making a bid for him once the transfer window opened on January 1st according to various outlets.

That bid has so far been turned down as Dortmund look to secure a bigger fee for the forward than Aston Villa have offered at this moment in time.

Malen is believed to be keen on the move as he’s long wanted to play in the Premier League, and it has even been suggested today that the two clubs could work out a swap deal that would see Ian Maatsen heading back to the German club as part of the deal.

Should Malen move it would bring an end to a three-year spell with Dortmund, who he joined in a €30m deal from PSV Eindhoven in July 2021.

Since then, he’s managed 39 goals and 20 assists in 131 games for the club and Kehl admits he’s not surprised by interest in the forward.

“Donny is an important player for us and has been our top scorer for the past two seasons,” he said.

“It is not at all surprising to me that his qualities are arousing interest in the market. Nevertheless, he has great value for us.”
