Sporting midfielder Hidemasa Morita has told the Japanese media that he hopes he can improve when his side face Arsenal in their next Champions League tie.
The 29-year-old played 75 minutes in Sporting’s 4-1 victory over Manchester City on Tuesday night, but the Japan international thinks he needs to give more for his team.
O Jogo have covered comments he made to Goal Japan following their win over the Premier League champions earlier this week. Due to the new one game Champions League format Morita said if they were to face Manchester City again in the competition, he hopes that he can perform better and accepts it was just one of those games for him.
He went on to say he hopes to put this right when they face Arsenal and all that he can do is to improve in the next game.
“Now there are no home and away games, and we can only play City again if we go through. If we cross paths again, I would like to face them again to improve my performance. I just hope to do better in the next games and be able to contribute to the team in the game against Arsenal. I have to accept that this was one of those games… I have to reflect on my performance,” said the defensive midfielder.
Sporting are currently second in the Champions League table, just two points behind leaders Liverpool.
They will be hoping to boost their qualifying chances when Arsenal travel to Portugal at the end of this month, with the Gunners in need of a win after their defeat to Inter Milan last night.
