Today’s edition of French newspaper L’Equipe has a story about Marseille sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta and they look at the Spaniard’s situation at the club, including his relationship with Rudi Garcia.
Before the Ligue 1 club decides on a transfer, it has to be cleared with the former Barcelona director of football and the process is not well appreciated by their manager, who wants to have full control over incoming and outgoing players.
Kevin Strootman left AS Roma and joined Les Phocéens in the summer transfer window for almost €30m, while the Spaniard was not keen on signing the Dutchman as he wanted to bring in a young midfielder and a striker.
The 28-year-old was signed at the end of August after Marseille allowed André-Frank Zambo Anguissa to join Fulham at the start of the same month and Garcia’s side cashed in around €30m from the sale of the Cameroonian midfielder.
It’s claimed that Zubizarreta was against the sale of the 22-year-old to Fulham because he was confident that Zambo Anguissa would earn Marseille more money from a transfer in the 2019 summer window.
Unfortunately for the sporting director, his employer decided against taking his advice and allowed the African midfielder to join the Premier League club.
Good news for Fulham.
