Arsenal had always been seen as the favourites to win Champions League Group B, and after their 4-0 victory over PSV in the opening round, that only made it more clear.
As the clubs involved now prepare to play the second fixture, one had admitted they’re fighting for second place.
That’s Sevilla.
Club chief Victor Orta today spoke to the Spanish media, and talking about the group, he highlighted Arsenal’s quality, claiming there shouldn’t be big competition for them. The quotes come from AS.
“Arsenal have a 95% chance of topping the group. They are a team on another level,” said Victor Orta.
“To be second it is key to score away from home and above all, to win. We have drawn one game at home and we have the obligation to win away from home. That way, we’d go into the double-header with Arsenal with a bit of a net.”
Sevilla drew with Lens at home in the opening round, and they now play PSV with the hope of getting their first win in the competition.
That means Arsenal are the only side with three points in Group B, and in case they beat Lens tonight, they’ll be in a comfortable position in the chase for a place in the knock-out stage.
If Orta is right, the real battle in this group will be to see which club ends up right behind the Gunners.
