Sunday saw a great deal of chaos at PSV, with the Dutch club feeling pressured over the Steven Bergwijn situation.
Tottenham wanted to sign the attacker, and there were claims Bergwijn had refused to play for the Eindhoven club.
The parties reached an agreement relatively quickly, and the Dutchman is one of Jose Mourinho’s signings for the January window.
So PSV could be pleased with the money they received from Tottenham, Bergwijn agreed to give up a percentage he was due from the transfer fee.
This had been suggested in the Netherlands prior to the transfer, and now PSV’s director of sport has confirmed it.
Eindhoven Dagblad journalist Rik Elfrink quotes John de Jong as saying: “He did not refuse to play. We only had no deal with Spurs on Sunday. He therefore did not have permission to travel. Steven himself waived part of his percentage of the transfer fee to complete the transfer.”
Bergwijn came through the youth system at PSV, having left the Ajax system as a youngster. Given his exit had turned things a little sour, with some fans unhappy with his perceived conduct, De Jong’s words should help make everything better.
