Houssem Aouar is one of the players available this summer who is getting fans excited by the prospect of him signing for their club.

Linked most to Manchester City and Arsenal, at least in the Premier League, Lyon seem to be trying to build the basis of an auction, as they’ve done repeatedly with previous big exits.

Whilst Aouar doesn’t need hyping up, given his progress with Lyon, dragging clubs in and creating a pressure situation is completely to the benefit of the French club, and that’ll be one of the reasons they’re happy to talk about the player’s future publicly.

Juninho, Lyon’s sporting director, has been speaking to RMC, and when it came to Aouar and a potential move to Arsenal, he’s quoted as saying: “I get along very well with the sports director (Edu). We spoke on the phone. Arteta really appreciates Houssem Aouar. There were some discussions for Mattéo Guendouzi who is also a good player. He was mentioned during the discussion. But this is not the profile that we need, we were very clear. If it is like that, it does not interest us at all, so we stopped.”

That would back-up earlier claims, from several French sources, that Arsenal offered Mattéo Guendouzi as part of a deal for the Lyon star. With it being clear the Ligue 1 side have no interest, Edu would have to find a new way for the Gunners to proceed.

One plan could be using Alexandre Lacazette, who Juninho has revealed he’s spoken to, however, the forward’s wages would prove an issue.

On Manchester City interest, and that from elsewhere, Juninho said: “I think it happened directly with the agents. We were not contacted directly. Maybe Vincent Ponsot (general manager) was contacted by Manchester City, I’m not sure. It’s like that with these two teams, they are two huge teams that play to win the CL every year, they have the capacity for that and that makes every player dream. I don’t know if Houssem is ready to change plans for a great Ligue 1 team like PSG. For City, of course Guardiola appreciates the player, but is that the profile they are looking for today? We don’t know either and we haven’t received an official offer.”
