Dutch outlet Viaplay Sport Nederland this week managed to hold an interview with two Liverpool players.
They had a conversation with Oranje stars Virgil van Dijk and Cody Gakpo, who seem to get along pretty well at the Premier League side.
Voetbal Primeur today share the quotes from the Liverpool centre-back speaking of the attacker, pointing out how much he added to the team since his arrival in the middle of the season.
“There was a chance that Bobby would leave. I’ve seen Cody play football several times at the Oranje squad and the growth as a person that he can make was also visible. I noticed that this would be the right step for him,” said van Dijk.
Specifically on Gakpo’s versatility, Van Dijk said: “That is very special. He can do it all well. You also have to have that flexibility when other things are asked in a match. Against Real Madrid he was an ‘eight’, he does that well in my opinion. False striker… it’s all possible.”
Gakpo said: “As a person I’m eager to learn. Certainly now that I’m in a completely different position this year than before, I can learn a lot from what the coaches say. But I can also learn a lot from Bobby.”
Signed in a €42m deal from PSV in January, Gakpo has six goals and three assists in 24 appearances for Liverpool so far, with his highlight probably being the brace he scored in the 7-0 win over Manchester United in March.
The Reds now have the last two games of the season against Southampton at St. Mary’s and Leicester City at Anfield. Jurgen Klopp’s side stand 5th in the Premier League table, and hope for Manchester United to have a couple of stumbles, so they can still compete for the fourth 4th that could give them a place in the Champions League next season.
