The Austrian media are getting ready to welcome Celtic this week as Brendan Rodgers takes his side to face Red Bull Salzburg.
Whilst there’s been confidence verging on cockiness from some, relating to how much better the Austrian team is playing at the moment than their Scottish Premiership rivals, there’s genuine interest in the club’s fans.
Earlier today we covered the preparations police are making ahead the Europa League match, although they don’t seem to be expecting any trouble, and there’s several reports in the country explaining to an Austrian audience just what Celtic are all about.
De Standard calls Celtic a ‘special club with special fans’, although they point out there’s ‘big problems’ for Rodgers on the pitch right now.
‘An Irish club in Glasgow’ is what Der Standard take as their line and the history dating back to the Irish famine is touched upon.
Other, less covered, things have clearly stood out for the Austrian newspaper, such as: ‘The 72-page club magazine The Celtic View has been published weekly since 1965; it reaches 6,000 readers.’
