The Spanish press didn’t need much time to rule out Gero Rulli’s transfer to Newcastle United in the winter transfer window.

Rafa Benitez’ interest in the goalkeeper was first reported by The Sun on Wednesday, who claimed the Real Sociedad player would be rated at £15m.

Mundo Deportivo was one of the Spanish outlets who covered the story, and quickly dismissed any chances of a transfer in January.

They call the Newcastle move ‘unviable’, because although Real Sociedad may be preparing themselves for his departure in the future, selling him in January sounds ‘impossible’ for the clu, as he’s been pretty important.

Despite moving to Manchester City in the summer of 2016, the goalkeeper never played in England. He was immediately sent on loan to Real Sociedad, and ended up making the permanent transfer last January.

Rulli has started all of Real Sociedad’s games so far, so it indeed sounds really unlikely Newcastle could get him that easily. Maybe in the summer. And with more money.
